Peninsula Carer Council NewsNew DVD in our LivraryClinicians, Carers and Confidentiality –an excellent DVD produced by Lantern (formerly Reach Out). Dr. Ruth Vine, Director , Mental Health, Department of Human Services, Vic. wrote “ The content of this DVD provides clinicians, carers and consumers with an excellent opportunity to understand each other’s perspective and to explore and find better ways of working together around the issue of confidentiality” What Happens After ...?Shakespeare’s Macbeth has reminded us for centuries that each of us is just” a poor player That struts and frets his hour upon the stage/And then is heard no more”. Of course, Macbeth was talking about everyone, but for carers the thought is often a major, haunting concern. What happens to the person we are caring for when we are” heard no more”? The CLOCK workers have listened to carers’ concerns and are prepared to organise an afternoon session with speakers discussing future planning to try to ensure that our loved ones will continue to have access to support ,and will be as financially secure as possible. Ring us – 59705024 and leave a message if you would be interested to attend such a session one afternoon at PSS in the near future Internet ResearchPeople with a mental illness and their carers face great challenges; it is important that we know that all over the world scientists and other clinicians are working to solve some of the mysteries of mental illness. What are the causes – genetics, nature, nurture? Are side effects of medication inevitable? Is recovery possible etc.? We are so lucky that we have a member, Walter de Goede, who regularly searches the Internet and distributes information of world wide research, providing valuable material for discussion at the Support Meetings. These discussions give us reasons to continue to hope. As we continue to “dream impossible dreams” we may see some dreams become reality.
